The AeroBurner 3-wood in Robert MacIntyre’s bag is nearly a decade old, completely worn out, and still absolutely essential. Here’s why the Scot refuses to let it go.
Some golfers change their fairway woods more often than their socks. Robert MacIntyre? He’s still gaming a 2015 TaylorMade AeroBurner 3-wood, and you wouldn’t believe the state of it.
The face might be the most worn on tour. Honestly, it probably needs its own caddie. But if it works, it works… and for Bob, it really works.
Bob is on a 10-club deal with Titleist, so seeing the AeroBurner in his setup, alongside his TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter, isn’t all that surprising. While many pros stick within brand contracts, it’s common to see one or two “vintage” favourites lurking in their bags.
The likes of Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau are still gaming their Nike Vapor Fly Pro driving irons. But few are quite as committed as MacIntyre is to his battered, beloved AeroBurner, a club that’s stuck with him longer than most sponsorships.
Despite testing out newer models over the years, MacIntyre just can’t seem to find anything better, and who can blame him? The trusty AeroBurner has been in and out of his bag since he was a teenager, and when he heads to a big event, especially on the links, it always finds its way back in.

So it’s no surprise to see it in the bag for the Genesis Scottish Open, The Open Championship, and the Alfred Dunhill Links – three of the most demanding events on the calendar when it comes to shot shaping, trajectory control, and comfort under pressure.
That’s not to say it was love at first hit.
Even now, with brands churning out new fairway woods packed with carbon faces, adjustability, and AI-designed speed slots, MacIntyre’s sticking with what he knows. It isn’t far off being older than some of the rookies he’s playing against, and finding a replacement for a club that’s been his go-to for over a decade may now prove impossible, but there’s something poetic about a club that just won’t quit.
Yes, you can still buy one yourself, and yes, it’ll be used, but there’s a good chance it’s in better nick than Bob’s!
