In the midst of celebrating the franchise’s 10th anniversary, Techland still has Dying Light: The Beast coming out next month. The developer is taking advantage of the summer season in its latest buzz video, hyping up what they’re referring to as the Castor Woods campaign for the game, which also includes a mascot in Bober the Beaver.
“While working on the world of Dying Light: The Beast, it was important to us that it be filled with hidden stories and small, interesting details that make the world feel more lively and immersive,” explains Dying Light Franchise Director Tymon Smektała. “At one point, our artists pitched the idea of including beavers in the worldbuilding – and we loved it. What started as a small environmental detail quickly evolved into something much bigger…”
According to the press release, beavers became a symbol of the Castor Woods region, and a kind of mascot for the natural reserve. The devs loved the idea so much that they went about placing beavers in many parts of the game – statues, posters, logos of local companies, even the coat of arms.
The result is Bober the Beaver starring in a promotional video that touts the region’s tourist spots, spliced with the expected footage of roaming zombies causing havoc for the humans.
Of course, the real star of Dying Light: The Beast is Kyle Crane. After breaking free from a decade of experimentation, Kyle discovers a changed world… and so has he. You’ll explore the once-picturesque tourist destination of Castor Woods in a quest for revenge against The Baron, the man responsible for Kyle’s imprisonment. To succeed, you’ll need to harness Kyle’s half-human, half-zombie DNA to unleash devastating powers along with his survival and parkour skills.
Dying Light: The Beast launches on August 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
