Las Vegas (KSNV) — The gaming industry in Las Vegas, a major economic driver generating billions in revenue, is facing challenges as tourism numbers decline.

Stephen Miller, an economist with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, expressed concerns about the impact of this trend on the gaming sector for the remainder of the year and into 2026.

Data from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority revealed a 6.5% decrease in tourism in May compared to the same period last year.

Statewide, the gaming win fell by 2.2% year-over-year, dropping from $1.32 billion in May 2024 to $1.29 billion in May 2025. Miller noted a particular decline in international travelers visiting Las Vegas.

Greg Dunn, a visitor who has experienced Las Vegas over the years, shared his perspective. “Everybody still wants to come to Las Vegas, it’s awesome,” he said.

Additionally, passenger numbers at Harry Reid International Airport fell in May for the fourth consecutive month, further highlighting the challenges facing Las Vegas tourism and its gaming industry.
