The ViewSonic VX3418C-2K is a new ultrawide monitor primarily aimed at gamers. It boasts a refresh rate of 180Hz and a response time of 1 millisecond. AMD FreeSync Premium is supported, which should prevent tearing. ViewSonic opted for a 34-inch VA panel with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels and a brightness of 250 nits. The typical contrast ratio is specified as 4000:1. Due to the panel technology, the ViewSonic VX3418C-2K won’t be as vivid as OLED or mini-LED monitors. Anyhow, the 21:9 monitor has a 1500R curvature for better immersion.
The sRGB color space is covered by more than 100%, but apart from that, the gaming monitor’s feature set is rather simple. For instance, there’s no USB hub or KVM switch onboard. In terms of connectivity, two HDMI 2.0 and two DisplayPort inputs are available, and two 5-watt speakers are built-in as well. ViewSonic specifically advertises compatibility with modern gaming consoles, which can certainly run at 120Hz, but typically don’t support ultrawide resolutions. That said, the VX3418C-2K further offers a 3.5mm headphone jack and VESA compatibility. The screen can be adjusted in height, it can also be swiveled and tilted. ViewSonic’s new gaming monitor has already been listed in some European markets for €289.

My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
