Manchester United take determined stance on Bryan Mbeumo as Red Devils and Brentford continue haggling

Manchester United remain in talks for Bryan Mbeumo but will not be panicked into paying over the odds, talkSPORT understands.

Just three weeks ago, Man United believed they were close to reaching an agreement for Mbeumo, with Brentford sources even suggesting a medical was expected to take place.

However, the two Premier League clubs are still haggling over the amount of money to be paid up front.

Brentford are wanting a guarantee of at least the £62.5million the Red Devils paid for Matheus Cunha and add-ons pushing the overall package to in excess of £65million.

The Bees believe they are in a strong bargaining position, as although Mbeumo’s contract expires next summer, they have the option to extend by a further year.

Ideally, Man United want to have Mbeumo signed in time for their upcoming pre-season tour of the USA, which they are due to depart for next Tuesday.

The Cameroonian has resumed training with Brentford as talks continue, but has made it clear to owner Matthew Benham he wants to move to Old Trafford.

United sources have told talkSPORT they are determined to stay disciplined and patient during negotiations, having been burned by paying too much for players in recent transfer windows.

Ruben Amorim has been eyeing Mbuemo throughout the summer window, after his impressive campaign last season.

The forward, who has also been linked to Tottenham, had the best year of his career so far, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists in the top flight.

His form attracted the interest of the Red Devils and they submitted an opening bid for Mbuemo at the start of June.

But that £55million offer was rejected and the Bees are still holding out for another £10m on top of that over a month later.

Amorim wants attacking reinforcements, with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony set to depart.

The four stars have been asked to report to training only once the rest of the United team have left the facilities this pre-season.

Man United are hoping to only pay what they believe Mbeumo is worth, after incidents like Antony’s arrival in the past.

The Brazilian arrived at Old Trafford for over £80m in 2022, but majorly flopped and is expected to be sold for a huge loss.

Sancho also joined the club for £73m and failed to succeed, while Rasmus Hojlund has struggled since his £72m move too.

So, the Red Devils are staying determined this time around to make sure they don’t pay over the odds for Mbeumo.

Alan Pardew believes Manchester United are in the Premier League relegation battle for upcoming season

Man United begin their pre-season on Saturday afternoon as they take on Leeds United in a friendly in Stockholm.

They then embark on their summer tour of the USA, which will feature clashes against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.

Whether Mbuemo joins them on tour is still unknown, but United want a deal done by then.

Their Premier League campaign gets started on August 17, with a tough opening fixture against Arsenal.

Mbeumo could make his competitive debut in that game should his move from Brentford finally go through.

Should it not, he’ll likely be starting the 2025/26 season away at Nottingham Forest as part of the Bees’ set-up.
