An Upcoming Switch 2 Game Is Getting a Free Trial, but There’s a Catch

A free trial of Drag x Drive will be available for those eager to try the wheelchair basketball game on the Switch 2, but a Nintendo Switch Online subscription will be required to take part. First shown off during April’s dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Drag x Drive quickly stood out to viewers for its unique premise and use of the mouse mode for the Joy-Con 2 controllers.

Scheduled to launch exclusively for the Switch 2 on August 14, Drag x Drive is a 3v3 wheelchair sports game that will task players with using the new mouse mode to defeat their opponents on the court. Immediate reception to the game’s trailer was positive, with some Nintendo fans eager for more sports games and many more praising the title’s creativity and commitment to accessibility. Drag x Drive will allow users to utilize a screen reader, change the font size, and use speech-to-text features in GameChat, making it an incredibly welcoming title for all kinds of players. Now, interested fans will get a chance to try the game before launch, with one caveat.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has only begun to write its story, and these upcoming new games will be major chapters.

As spotted by VGC, Nintendo has announced the Drag x Drive: Global Jam event, which will allow players to try the game ahead of its full launch on August 14, but a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to take part. Fans will be able to jump in on August 9 and August 10 for three four-hour sessions in total. Those unable to take part but who are still interested in the title won’t have to worry about breaking the bank when the game releases, as Drag x Drive is incredibly affordable at only $19.99.

Drag x Drive Free Trial Dates & Times (Nintendo Switch Online Membership Required)

  • August 9 from 3:00–7:00 (PT) / 17:00 – 21:00 (PT)
  • August 10 from 9:00 – 13:00 (PT)

One confusing detail about the upcoming sports title is that Drag x Drive doesn’t appear to support local multiplayer. The game will support up to 12 players online, but will only support a single user per console, meaning that a friend can’t connect their own pair of Joy-Cons. The unique game is seeing plenty of hype online, but being unable to utilize a local multiplayer feature may have a negative impact on sales.

Switch 2 sales have been monumental, with 3.5 million consoles sold in its first four days on the market. Fans are now looking to its future, as the system launched with very few first-party titles. Recent rumors indicate that a July 2025 Nintendo Direct is still in the cards, though no official comment has been made just yet.
