Over two decades since the original was released, players can now enjoy the enhanced graphics and additional content of Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition. Cheats to get ahead also make a return, and are now easier than ever to use, although the game will mock players for doing so, and there aren’t as many.

Using cheats disables achievements. It will say so at the bottom of the cheat menu after using one. They will not be enabled again until players fully exit the game and reload.

Fans of medieval video games have a lot to look forward to in the near future, but these are the most promising titles on the horizon.

How To Use Cheats In Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition

To use Cheats in Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, players simply need to press ESC to bring up the Game Options menu. For those in the Main Menu, Game Options are instead opened via the button at the bottom. From here, click on Options.

Under all the settings, they should see a circular chicken button. Fittingly, this is how the Cheat Menu is accessed.

Individual Cheats can now be clicked on from this menu, or players can tick the Enable Cheat Keys box and use hotkeys during gameplay for some Cheats.

Initially, there is no visual clue that Cheats have worked, and players may think they are bugged. However, exit the menu, and the game will unpause, allowing Gold to be added, for example.

Unlock All Missions

There are two options: Temporarily or Permanently. These are great options for returning players from the original who want to skip the easy missions or perhaps jump ahead to their favorite.

The temporary option will unlock the missions until the game is exited and reloaded.

Reset All Missions

This resets campaign progress for those who wish to start from scratch all over again. A warning will pop up.

Medieval city-builder games are immensely popular as players love building up from scratch in more rudimentary and idyllic times.

Reset Popularity

Hotkey: Not Assigned

This puts Popularity back to 100, although it might still trend downward if the people don’t have enough food and are paying high taxes.

+1000 Gold

Players can use this as many times as they like, allowing them to buy any items from the marketplace, recruit troops, or build town buildings such as churches, which cost Gold.

Enable Free Buildings

Hotkey: Alt K

This is toggled on and off. When enabled, placing buildings won’t cost Wood, Stone, or Gold. However, certain buildings, such as mines, can still only be built on the correct land, such as on iron deposits.

Being able to place buildings freely, especially in the Free Build game mode, is great for learning how to build castles.
