Thomas Frank’s plan for Morgan Gibbs-White may worry one Tottenham star

Amidst the ongoing legal battle between Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur over Morgan Gibbs-White, a new report has shed light on why Thomas Frank is so keen to bring the attacking midfielder through the door.

When it first emerged last week that Tottenham activated Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause, many Spurs fans were pleasantly surprised and quite a few were left scratching their heads regarding where he would play.

Spurs already boast of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Lucas Bergvall, who can all operate as a number ten while we also saw Ange Postecoglou use Wilson Odobert in that role on occasions last season.

We have now got an answer to what kind of role Thomas Frank has in mind for the Nottingham Forest man, who scored seven goals and registered 10 assists at the City Ground as a number ten last season.

Why does Thomas Frank want to sign Morgan Gibbs-White for Tottenham?

Spurs fans would be aware that Nottingham Forest have now legally challenged Tottenham’s move for Gibbs-White, accusing the North London side of having approached the attacking midfielder without their permission.

While reporting on the ongoing tussle between the two clubs, The Sun have also shed light on why Spurs are so keen to sign the 25-year-old.

The outlet says that Tottenham’s pursuit of Gibbs-White is being driven by their head coach. Frank wants to bring a ‘dynamic number 10’ through the door and he sees the England international as a good fit for the side.

In fact, the publication also backs up what we have heard previously from other sources by revealing that Frank tried to take the former Wolves midfielder to Brentford during his time in charge at the Gtech Community Stadium.

What does this mean for James Maddison?

According to reports, Tottenham are confident that they will be able to complete a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White despite Forest’s efforts to challenge the move.

If Frank wants Gibbs-White to be his main number 10, which he presumably does, considering Spurs are dropping £60m on him, that means Maddison potentially faces the prospect of no longer being a regular starter.

There is no doubt, however, that the former Leicester man is a fighter, and he will not want to surrender his place in the side easily. The competition for places with Gibbs-White could bring the best out of the 28-year-old.
