A new system update for the Nintendo Switch 2 has arrived, with the July 2025 patch bringing some stability improvements and several bug fixes to the popular console. The six weeks following the hardware’s launch have been hectic, with the Nintendo Switch 2 breaking sales records and flying off shelves as stores try desperately to maintain stock.
In its first four days on the market, the Nintendo Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units globally, making the console the company’s fastest-selling to date. Many consumers weren’t too surprised by this feat, as the original Switch surpassed both the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS to become the third best-selling gaming console of all time, with over 146 million units shipped globally at the time of writing. In June, Nintendo rolled out a patch improving the stability of the Switch 2, and now, the company has released yet another update to continue refining the system and improve the overall user experience.

The July 2025 system update for the Nintendo Switch 2 is quite small, but it does bring some helpful fixes for a few ongoing issues. Beyond some general stability improvements, the Version 20.2.0 patch addresses an issue in which Parental Control settings weren’t transferred from the original Switch to the Switch 2 in some circumstances during a system transfer. Thankfully, it also fixed an issue where users couldn’t proceed past the “Searching for networks” screen in Internet Settings. Those waiting for custom themes on the Switch 2 will, unfortunately, have to wait a bit longer, as the rumored update still seems to be a ways off.
This week is a big one for Nintendo Switch 2 fans, as the highly anticipated title Donkey Kong Bananza will finally be released on Thursday, July 17. Many consumers were somewhat frustrated by the console’s lack of first-party games at launch, though more are expected to drop in 2025, including Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, though no concrete release dates have been revealed. Additionally, the Metroidvania title Hollow Knight: Silksong is expected to appear on the new hardware later this year.
While no official confirmation has come from the company just yet, a July 2025 Nintendo Direct may still be in the cards, according to recent rumors. According to well-known industry leaker NateTheHate, many developers have chosen not to reveal details about upcoming games recently, potentially waiting until a Direct livestream to do so.
