Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett has revealed that there is one thing that Morgan Gibbs-White could do to ensure that he completes a move to Tottenham Hotspur despite Nottingham Forest’s attempts to stop the move.
Nottingham Forest have now legally challenged Tottenham’s move for Gibbs-White, accusing the North London side of having approached the attacking midfielder without their permission.
This is after Tottenham activated Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause and planned a medical at Hotspur Way last Friday.
However, Spurs are unable to complete the move now as Forest have cut communication with the Lilywhites while raising the issue with the Premier League, thus putting a temporary stop to the deal.
Morgan Gibbs-White has a contractual right to join Tottenham
As Spurs fans await a verdict on this transfer, Rob Dorsett has now explained what the legal rights are for both Forest and Gibbs-White in this context.
He stated that Forest are well within their rights to expect confidential contract information not to be leaked to a third party.
However, he added that the midfielder could also explore his own legal rights if he wants to push through the transfer, as he is contractually permitted to join Tottenham Hotspur if they have met his release clause.
The journalist also revealed that Forest remain adamant that Gibbs-White is not leaving and have tried in vain for the past 12 months to tie the former Wolves man down to a new contract and remove his release clause.
Dorsett wrote: ‘Forest are adamant Morgan Gibbs-White is going nowhere, but have NOT yet complained to PL about #thfc. I can reveal Forest have tried for a year to open new contract talks with MGW with a big pay rise and removal of the buy-out, but he’s refused. Spurs are taking a watching brief.
‘Both Forest and MGW have legal rights here – Forest have right for confidential contract info not to be released to rival clubs, MGW has a contracted right to leave Forest, if a £60m bid comes in. If MGW really wants to move to Tottenham, he may have to explore those legal rights.’

Will Gibbs-White take matters into his own hands?
It sounds like the 25-year-old and his representatives are within their rights to legally challenge Nottingham Forest should the club successfully stop the player from moving to Tottenham.
However, over the last few days, several sources have claimed that Forest do not expect to stop Gibbs-White’s move to Spurs.
They are aware that at best, it may just delay the move, but they want to send a message that they will not allow their best player to leave the club without a fight.
That might explain why Spurs and Gibbs-White have decided to play the waiting game, with both parties potentially expecting this matter to be resolved quickly and in their favour.
