MindsEye, the controversial first title by Leslie Benzies’ Build a Rocket Boy, has already received a 30% discount by some retailers, just one month after the action-adventure game’s disastrous release. Gamers who have been curious about all of the controversy surrounding MindsEye, but reluctant to pay full price for the title, can now pick it up for just $40 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC at select retailers.

No early review copies of MindsEye were sent to media outlets before the game’s release, but a handful of content creators were given the opportunity to go hands-on with the game earlier this year. Many described MindsEye as a “broken mess,” filled with bugs and performance issues. Unfortunately, things didn’t get much better by the time its release date rolled around, as MindsEye quickly became the worst-reviewed game of the year. Sure, there’s still half of the year left to go, but MindsEye is currently rocking a Metacritic score of 37, which means a truly awful game is going to have to come along if it wants to claim the award for 2025’s worst game.

New rumors are claiming that MindsEye could be getting a sequel in the future, but it may be far too soon to plan a follow-up.

Build a Rocket Boy has assured fans that it remains committed to MindsEye and intends to improve the game with numerous new hotfixes and updates. For those who believe a plethora of MindsEye updates could turn the game into something great, now is the time to pick it up. As spotted by The Gamer, retailers such as Target, Walmart, Amazon, GameStop, and Steam have all discounted MindsEye by 30%, making the title just $40 USD. There are still certain retailers charging full price for MindsEye, and Steam is the only digital storefront to offer a discount. Those looking to get MindsEye digitally via the PlayStation or Xbox store will still need to pay full price.

Now Could Be the Perfect Time to Get MindsEye

There’s a strong chance that MindsEye receives even heavier discounts in the future, but now could be the perfect time to pick up Build a Rocket Boy’s first game. Earlier this month, the studio’s co-CEO Leslie Benzies, who was once president of Rockstar Games and producer on the Grand Theft Auto series, reportedly told staff that MindsEye will be relaunched and “bounce back.” It’s unclear how Benzies intends to relaunch MindsEye, but if it turns out anything like the phenomenal comeback of Cyberpunk 2077, now could be the perfect time to pick up the game while it’s 30% off.

The sudden discount likely won’t come as a surprise to most gamers, considering the disastrous launch. But what did surprise some was MindsEye‘s debut on a UK sales chart last month. Despite the negative reviews and backlash from players and critics, MindsEye was the fourth best-selling physical game in the UK shortly after its release in June. It managed to sell more physical copies than heavy hitters such as Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and more.
