Starfield has surpassed The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind in the number of downloads on Nexus Mods. Starfield was released in 2023, and one of the game’s main appeals is the variety of native content due to the impressive number of systems to explore. However, this potential goes even further with the ability to install mods.
Players who want to enhance their Starfield experience by installing mods have a vast list of options to choose from. Back in 2024, a Starfield mod addressed a major complaint from players by replacing elevator loading screens with working elevators. Earlier this year, a mod that adds 300 missions to Starfield was shared by a community member, offering new content such as deliveries, manufacturing, and fights against Infestations. There is a lot to do in Starfield, and even more with the help of mods. Thanks to this feature, Bethesda’s game has reached an impressive milestone.

It’s Clear Starfield Won’t Be the Next Cyberpunk 2077
Starfield’s ongoing improvement has been likened to Cyberpunk 2077’s, but the two games actually couldn’t be any more different in this regard.
Starfield surpassed The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and became the 12th most downloaded game on Nexus Mods. The information was shared on the Starfield subreddit by user taosecurity, showing that Bethesda’s RPG has reached 90.6 million downloads – a number that now stands at 90.7 million. They say the game has around two times more downloads than Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord mods, so they expect it won’t be long before it surpasses TaleWorlds Entertainment’s title. Starfield had already surpassed another well-known game in early May, amassing more mod downloads than Capcom’s Monster Hunter World.
Starfield’s Relationship With Mods
Although Starfield now supports mods, it did not officially arrive at launch. Instead, it arrived only in early 2024 when Bethesda released the Creation Kit. Now, the game has over 10,800 mods hosted on Nexus Mods, including popular downloads such as tools to enable automatic looting of ship debris, improve the inventory screen, and make the game run more smoothly. Despite this, modders are losing interest in Starfield.
Bethesda’s expectations for Starfield were high, with plans to release annual DLC. The Shattered Space expansion dropped in September 2024, telling a new story set in the city of Dazra, but since then, Starfield has not received any other DLC. However, the game continues to receive updates, the most recent one having dropped at the end of May. Despite the lukewarm reception to the DLC, plans can always change, so players hope that Bethesda will breathe new life into Starfield with the release of a second expansion.
