Newcastle are interested in signing Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, talkSPORT understands.
The German outfit value Ekitike at €90million (£77m) this summer.
Newcastle are looking for an extra forward option to play alongside star man Alexander Isak.
The Swedish forward scored 27 goals across all competitions last term to fire the Magpies to a top five finish and Carabao Cup glory.
Liverpool have also scouted Ekitike heavily after his permanent switch to Frankfurt last summer.
The Reds have shown an interest in Isak as well but an approach has yet to be made by the Premier League champions.

Ekitike’s move from Paris Saint-Germain saw the 23-year-old pen a deal through to the summer of 2029 at the Bundesliga side.
He scored 15 goals and added eight assists in 33 league matches for the club during the 2024/25 campaign.
Newcastle’s interest follows their failed move to sign Joao Pedro earlier in the window.
The Brazilian instead completed a switch to Chelsea from Brighton, signing an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Pedro has since scored twice in two appearances for the Blues at the Club World Cup.
Talks have also been held with Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he left Everton at the end of the campaign.
Eddie Howe has already lost an option in front of goal after Callum Wilson’s exit.
The former England international departed upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June.
Howe is set to have to balance European football with Newcastle’s Premier League exploits this term.
The club will make their return to the Champions League after a season-long absence thanks to their fifth place finish in the league.
Ahead of the upcoming campaign, the Magpies have already been busy in the transfer market.
Teenage winger Antonito Cordero has joined the club from Malaga on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £55million on Friday.
Newcastle began their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 win over Carlisle on Saturday, whilst their opening league fixture will take place on August 16 away to Aston Villa.
