Limbo and Inside are being delisted from GOG on July 17. GOG is thus set to lose multiple hall-of-fame puzzle platformers in a single day.

Developed by Danish indie studio Playdead, Limbo and Inside are puzzle platformers originally released in 2010 and 2016, respectively. Both are characterized by an eerie atmosphere, minimalist storytelling flirting with horror, and a subdued color palette used to convey a sense of isolation and unease. Each was widely celebrated by fans and critics alike, and is regarded as the equivalent of required reading for anyone partial to puzzle platformers.

While both Inside and Limbo are some of the most ported video games of the 2010s, their overall availability is about to take a minor hit later this month, as both are about to leave GOG. This was recently confirmed by a representative of the CD Projekt-owned digital storefront, who revealed that Playdead’s critically acclaimed puzzle platformers are leaving the platform on Thursday, July 17. The dual-delisting is scheduled for 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 3pm CEST.

Upcoming GOG Game Delistings

The circumstances surrounding the upcoming removals have not been officially disclosed as of yet. Looking at the broader context, it is not uncommon for games to be delisted from GOG. Although this typically involves classic titles rather than contemporary ones, the underlying reasons are often similar, most commonly involving expiring licenses or changes in publishing rights, with new rights holders opting not to distribute their products through GOG.

Inside Drops to Its Lowest-Ever GOG Price

As is often the case with soon-to-be-delisted titles, GOG has discounted Inside by 90% in the run-up to its removal. Thanks to the recently introduced deal, the critically acclaimed puzzle platformer can currently be picked up for just $1.99, which matches its lowest-ever price on the digital storefront. The limited-time deal is listed as running until July 18, a day after GOG claimed Inside will be removed from its catalog. Limbo, however, hasn’t yet been treated to any kind of discount following the news of its delisting being imminent. It’s thus currently being offered at its full retail price of $9.99.

Since the circumstances surrounding the upcoming removals remain unclear, it is also uncertain whether they are intended to be permanent. Historically, there is precedent for titles being pulled from GOG and later returning. Ultimate Underworld 1+2 and Requiem: Avenging Angel followed such a pattern in recent years. While Limbo and Inside are away from GOG, PC users will still be able to purchase them via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Both are also available on the Mac App Store for macOS desktops.
