Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to push ahead with a move for Yoane Wissa, but a deal for the Brentford star is not expected to be easy for Spurs to complete.
Over the last few days, the headlines from a Tottenham Hotspur perspective have been dominated by their club’s efforts to get the deal for Morgan Gibbs-White over the line.
The midfielder’s move to North London has been halted over recent days, despite Tottenham triggering Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause.
This is because Nottingham Forest complained to the Premier League that Spurs had illegally approached Gibbs-White without their permission.
However, it has emerged over recent days that the Lilywhites also have their eye on another Premier League star. Tottenham are expected to begin talks over a deal for Yoane Wissa, having expressed an interest in him earlier this summer.
Brentford are desperate to keep hold of Wissa
It was revealed by The Standard on Friday that Spurs intend to pursue Wissa, independent of what happens with the Gibbs-White deal.
This claim has now been backed up by Dean Jones, but he explained that Brentford’s head coach, Keith Andrews, is desperate to stop the DR Congo international from leaving the club.
Jones said on Ranks FC Ultras Patreon Page: “Spurs are also still exploring a move for Yoane Wissa, which new Brentford boss Keith Andrews is desperate to stop.
“Between Bryan Mbeumo and Wissa, the Bees scored 39 goals last season. Losing both would leave them in danger of becoming early candidates for relegation, as Christian Norgaard also exits.”
Why Tottenham need to hurry if they want to get Yoane Wissa
Earlier this week, it emerged that Brentford will not sell both Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Man United are still looking to tie up a deal for Mbeumo, but they have been unable to meet Brentford’s valuation so far.
If the Red Devils do secure a deal for the Cameroonian, that would make it even harder for Tottenham to get Wissa, which is why time is of the essence for Thomas Frank’s men in their pursuit of the striker.
