After the big tease, Aniplex and South Korea-based developer JOYCITY Corporation have officially revealed Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a new mobile strategy title set to release later this year on iOS and Android. Pre-registration is now open on the App Store and Google Play with bonuses for doing so, while the game will launch in North America, Europe, and Asia as free-to-play with optional in-app purchases.
Featuring a new storyline that diverges from the series’ Survival Horror origins, Resident Evil: Survival Unit sees players awaken in a mysterious hospital, a test subject of the latest experiments by the Umbrella Corporation. As you uncover the truth and attempt to escape, the story unfolds into a parallel world where you meet up with familiar faces from the main series. Those faces include Resident Evil mainstays Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine and more.
Your central base of operations takes place inside a large mansion, which you build up and customize to plan your next mission. You’ll be purchasing weapons and items from Resident Evil 4‘s Weapons Merchant, as well as crafting and building your team. Speaking of which, each character of your team will feature unique skill sets and traits, as well as offering “diverse tactical combinations.”
Your success will depend on utilizing your characters’ skills and the environment around you, as you face off against creatures from across the history of Resident Evil. Survival Unit will also feature an exclusive original creature designed by guest designer Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D) known as “Mortem.”
