The UK government has announced the formation of a new UK Video Games Council that will help shape the future of the region’s video game industry.
The council will be chaired by Rebellion Games CEO Jason Kingsley CBE and Outright Games chair Nick Button-Brown. It was established at the request of Sir Chris Bryant MP—UK minister for the creative industries, arts and tourism—and will operate as an independent advisory board to the UK government with support from local trade bodies Ukie and TIGA.
“The UK’s video games sector is truly world-leading and a vital part of our creative industries. As set out in our Creative Industries Sector Plan, we want to make the UK the best place globally to invest in creativity and innovation,” said Bryant.
“That’s why I asked the industry to design and establish a new UK Video Games Council, which will play a vital role in representing the views of the sector. I look forward to working with its members to support the continued growth of our first-class games industry.”
The council will meet with Bryant twice a year to provide “comprehensive and strategic advice on measures to build an agenda for growth for the UK Video Games Industry.”
Members of the UK Games Council will serve for an initial term of up to three years and were purportedly selected to reflect the “breadth, expertise and leadership across the UK video games and interactive sector.”

Other members of the 14-person council include Ukie CEO Nick Poole, Larian Guildford studio head Tara Saunders, Chucklefish COO Donna Orlowski, Interior/Night studio director Charu Desodt, Microsoft senior corporate counsel TIm Varney, and Ustwo Games CEO Maria Sayans.
Plans for the council were initially unveiled within the UK government’s new Creative Industries Sector Plan, which was published in June 2025 and includes a Games Growth Package worth £30 million.
It has now finally broken cover to drive the Labor government’s “pro-games growth agenda.”
