Dragon Age: The Veilguard has walked away with three awards at a major gay gaming award ceremony.

The trans-inclusive fantasy role-playing game became EA’s most popular single-player game upon its release last year, according to analytics on PC gaming platform Steam.

On Tuesday (9 July), the BioWare and EA action role-playing game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, won three awards at the Gayming Awards 2025. Hosted at The Abbey in West Hollywood (the inspiration behind Chappell Roan’s hit “Pink Pony Club”), the Gayming Awards were also live-streamed on World of Wonder’s WOW Presents Plus.

The sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition was honoured with Best LGBTQ+ character for Rook, the game’s protagonist, Best LGBTQ+ Voice Actor of the Year for Erika Ishii’s performance of Rook, and the all-important Game of the Year award.

Speaking after the big win, BioAware general manager and executive producer Gary McKay, said: “Thank you so much to our fans, everyone at Gaming Magazine, most importantly, the entire team behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We couldn’t have accomplished this without each and every person on this project.

“The game reflects the passion, creativity, and unique perspectives of everyone involved, and I’m extremely proud of our work. I’m honoured to share this award with you all. Thank you.”

McKay added that the Best LGBTQ+ character “feels deeply meaningful to us as a team”, and thanked the “four fabulous voice actors who brought Rook to life and championed our inclusive approach”.

Other winners on the night included The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered for the Gayming Magazine Readers’ Award, Kitsune Tails for Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game, Code Coven for Industry Diversity Award, and Arcane: Season 2 for LGBTQ+ Geek Entertainment of the Year.
