Narrative Horror Game ‘VILE: Exhumed’ Launches July 22 on Steam [Trailer]

Prepare to unearth some extremely disturbing secrets. DreadXP and solo dev Cara Cadaver of Final Girl Games have announced a July 22 release for VILE: Exhumed, a “deeply personal horror story that invites reflection.” Accompanying the announcement is a brand-new trailer. As well, VILE: Exhumed will arrive a with a 10% launch discount on Steam.

Originally developed as a prototype in 2024 on itch.io, VILE: Exhumed garnered attention for its unflinching depiction of digital obsession and the violence that festers in the shadows and in front of our eyes. In this new full release, you will explore the remnants of a stranger’s mind through the decaying interface of an old computer, piecing together the disturbing narrative hidden within corrupted files, old abandoned forums, and emails. Every discovery brings you closer to the truth, and deeper into the rot of the mind.

Cadaver has “channelled a fiercely personal perspective into VILE: Exhumed, creating a story that feels intimate, upsetting, and deeply human.” Per the press release, the game’s horror is stripped of metaphor and of the fantasy or supernatural and laid bare. As the game invites players to confront uncomfortable truths about entitlement, identity, and digital voyeurism, Cadaver hopes players will find not just fear, but careful reflection.
