Electrical works forcing a lane closure on a major dual carriageway route across Kent is set to spark weeks of delays.
Drivers heading towards the coast on the A299 Thanet Way were hit by queues near Whitstable this evening.

It is the first day of disruption with UK Power Networks (UKPN) beginning 13 days’ worth of works between Faversham and Whitstable.
There were severe delays and queues tailing back more than a mile from the location of the lane closure, near the Yorkletts junction at the Dargate Services.
The company, which oversees the main supply systems of electrical cables across Kent and the south east, is due to complete the project on July 21.
Full details of why the lane closure has been implemented have not yet been confirmed by UKPN.

Permission was only granted by Kent Highways for the lane management scheme this morning with a description of the works listed as “utility repair and maintenance works”.
Motorists are being warned of delays in the area throughout the duration of the works.
UKPN has been approached for more information.
