When the car stopped in Gardiner Street, Gillingham the driver was detained and the vehicle searched with the help of a drugs dog.

Twenty-three deals of suspected cocaine, seven bags of cannabis and two mobile phones were then seized.

Saimir Merkaj, of no fixed address, was arrested and later charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

The 34-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (July 2).

He was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on a date to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, three other suspected drug dealers are also due to appear in court charged with supplying cocaine and heroin.

County line officers identified a specific phone line was allegedly being used to advertise the sale of the class A drugs in Medway in March.

It led to an address being searched in Chatham on June 4 where controlled drugs were seized and a man was arrested.

Another suspect was detained in the West Midlands on June 15 while a third arrest was made in Medway 11 days later.

Jamal Robinson, of Vernon Road, Birmingham, has since been charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin and being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine.

The 24-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on June 28 before being remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on July 25.

Eugenio Fernandez, 48, of Rochester Street, Chatham and James Cordell, 20, of Vernon Road Birmingham were previously charged with the same offences as Mr Robinson.

Both are due to appear at the same hearing in July.
