Nintendo finally reveals the developer behind Switch 2’s Welcome Tour

Nintendo

After weeks of silence, Nintendo confirms that Welcome Tour, its quirky Switch 2 launch title, was developed by the Mario Party veterans at Nintendo Cube.

It took nearly a month, but we finally know who’s behind Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. The mini-game collection, which launched alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, was released without any visible developer credits, an unusual move that left fans speculating. Now, thanks to an update on the official website of Nintendo Cube (formerly NDcube), the mystery has been solved.

Who is Nintendo Cube?

  • A Tokyo-based Nintendo subsidiary, best known for the Mario Party series since Mario Party 9
  • Formerly known as NDcube, rebranded in 2024
  • Also developed Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, Everybody 1-2-Switch, and Wii Party U

Their track record includes both beloved party games and more divisive titles, making them a fitting, if slightly controversial, choice for a game that blends tech demos, trivia, and mini-games.

Why the secrecy?

Nintendo has been increasingly tight-lipped about the developers behind its recent titles. Welcome Tour joins a growing list of games—including Princess Peach: Showtime! and Super Mario RPG, where the developer wasn’t confirmed until after release.

In Welcome Tour’s case, the lack of credits led to confusion and criticism, especially since the game was sold separately rather than bundled with the console. Many players assumed it was a pack-in title, only to discover it cost $9.99 and required additional accessories to fully complete.

The studio is also behind the upcoming Super Mario Party Jamboree: Switch 2 Edition, launching July 24, which will support the console’s new mouse controls and camera peripheral. Whether Welcome Tour was a misstep or a misunderstood experiment, Nintendo Cube remains a key player in Nintendo’s party game strategy.
