The Snapdragon 662-powered Mangmi Air X is now available in China. It’s an affordable Android gaming handheld that costs CNY 499, around $70, and it comes with Hall effect triggers and joysticks.
Mangmi has launched the Air X, which is positioned as a cheap gaming handheld that runs on Android. It comes with the Snapdragon 662, which isn’t a very capable SoC. However, the Adreno 610 GPU inside can handle retro emulation and less demanding mobile games.
While the SoC isn’t the main highlight of this Android gaming handheld, it’s positioned in a much more affordable range than handhelds like Anberic RG557 (curr. $339.99 on Amazon). Now, although it has a cheap price tag, Mangmi has integrated a good number of premium features.
Among them are Hall effect triggers and joysticks, and there’s a 6-axis gyroscope. These should lead to a better gaming experience. On the front, the Air X features a 5.5-inch IPS screen with 1080p resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The company claims that the panel covers 110% of the sRGB color space, and the screen’s brightness can reach 450 nits.
Another highlight of the Mangmi Air X is the 5,000 mAh battery, which can charge at 15 W. The company also notes that the chassis focuses on ergonomics, and with retro color options, the gaming handheld does appear a bit more premium than some of the options in the same price range. Among the other highlights are 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 64 GB of eMMC storage, WiFi 5, an active cooling setup, and a lightweight body.
Speaking of which, the Air X launched in China with a starting price of CNY 499, around $70. There’s no word on the global launch yet, and it’s also worth noting that Mangmi is a new player in the gaming handheld space.
