Rabat is hosting Africa’s largest gaming expo, which positions Morocco as a regional leader in the video game industry.

The event, which wraps up on July 6, has drawn major international attention, with participation from global gaming companies, investors, and educational institutions.

It also featured high-profile guests such as Japanese game design legend Yoshiki Okamoto, known for his work on iconic titles like Street Fighter and Resident Evil.

The expo has become a strategic platform for Morocco to showcase its ambitions in the gaming sector. Two international companies, TA Publishing and Gamearly, announced plans to establish operations in Morocco, with projects focused on both game development and training.

These investments are expected to create jobs, transfer technical expertise, and help build a skilled local workforce.

Morocco’s vision for the gaming industry is not only about entertainment, but also about economic development.

“This is an industry that can generate thousands of jobs and offer alternatives in a world where AI is transforming traditional employment,” he said.

The event also hosted business meetings with representatives from over 30 companies from countries including France, Germany, South Korea, and Japan. Discussions focused on investment opportunities and partnerships in Morocco’s growing digital and creative economy.

Moroccan universities and institutions showcased specialized training programs in game design, programming, and digital communication. These initiatives aim to equip a new generation of professionals with the skills needed to support the country’s gaming ambitions.

With a long-term goal of capturing 1% of the global gaming market, projected to reach $500 billion by 2033, Morocco is laying the groundwork for a robust national gaming ecosystem.

The government’s strategy includes infrastructure development, talent training, and international collaboration, all aimed at making the Kingdom a competitive player in the global gaming arena.
