Among those who wish to pirate video games, few individuals in the scene are more infamous, notorious or well-known than FitGirl, an individual that takes pirated video game content and “repacks” it into more manageable file sizes. As Xbox lays off thousands of developers, players are left with one option: to vote with their wallets.
That said, things temporarily took a turn for the “worse,” when they feigned their retirement, sending those who wish to pay nothing for the latest games into a frenzy.
As the story goes, the website temporarily featured a popular Looney Tunes endshot that says “That’s all, folks!” In online circles, that image typically means the person is leaving, moving on or departing, whatever it may be.
In the case of FitGirl, many took it that the pirate was giving up their pirating ways, particularly after the website failed to list any upcoming repacks of games. Previously, the website implied that if the list of upcoming repacks was empty, then that was it.
Naturally, those who support video game piracy took the news for the worst, assuming that they’d have to begin looking elsewhere for video game content.
However, it appears that the stunt was nothing more than an elaborate troll job, as the site quickly went back to normal and more games were listed. Still, for those few hours between the joke and punch line, people within the piracy community were left with the prospect of having to pay for games once again, you know, just like everyone else does.
