Tottenham Hotspur are biding their time on Alejo Veliz’s sale and that might prove to be a smart approach as the competition for the striker’s signature is now intensifying.
The 21-year-old has struggled in his two loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol over the last two seasons and it appears that Tottenham Hotspur have decided to cut their losses on the centre-forward.
That is according to reports from Argentina, who have claimed over recent weeks that Racing Club de Avellaneda are making a significant push to land Veliz.
It emerged a few days ago that Racing have now offered £5m plus a 30% sell-on clause to Tottenham for Veliz and they were optimistic that the Lilywhites will accept the deal.
Tottenham are yet to respond to the offer for Alejo Veliz
However, it turns out that the Argentine club have not heard from the Premier League side regarding their offer.
This is according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, who has taken to social media to reveal that Racing have not received any response from Spurs regarding the young forward’s future.
The journalist claims that Veliz is keen to make the switch back to his home country and the deal is seen as economically ‘viable’ by Racing.
However, given the lack of response from Spurs, the Primera Division club are now turning their attention to Cruzeiro striker Lautaro Diaz instead.

Another club have entered the race to sign Veliz
Meanwhile, according to a report in Bolavip (as relayed by Sport Witness), Boca Juniors are now ready to battle Racing for the Spurs man.
The outlet claims that both clubs have held talks with Tottenham over Veliz, with Boca manager Miguel Angel Russo keen to reunite with the youngster, having previously worked with him at Rosario Central.
However, the report claims that the fee that the Buenos Aires giants are willing to offer for the forward is less than what Racing are ready to pay.
