‘Sinkhole’ shuts town centre road in both directions

A town centre road is shut in both directions due to a reported sinkhole.

Shipbourne Road in Tonbridge has been closed off between Dry Hill Park Road and London Road since last night.

Traffic reporting service Inrix describes it as a “collapsed manhole” which is said to be near the George & Dragon pub.

Both Southern Water and KCC Highways officers have reportedly been at the site.

One resident reported that the sinkhole is “about 5ft wide”, with another adding: “This is going to be carnage.”
