We do not know exact figures, and if we will ever know them, but it is more than likely that GTA 6 will be the most expensive game in history. Its open world, technological advances, and hundreds of developers working on it make it cost several hundred million dollars… and whether that has an impact on its retail price remains to be seen. It also remains to be seen whether any game will ever have a higher production cost, but a former Rockstar employee believes it won’t: GTA 6 will be the most expensive game of all time, and that’s never going to change.
The reason is simple. “The bulk of the work [on games] is probably going to be replaced,” said Obbe Vermeij, former Rockstar Games Technical Lead on the KIWI TALKS show, who talks about how AI will obviously replace that work. He believes that, in fact, cinematic scenes could already be created entirely in this way, “rendered by AI, including the conversation.”

“My prediction is that GTA 7 will be cheaper to make than GTA 6, but we’ll have to wait 15 years to see if I’m right or not,” he continues. “I think there’s not gonna be a bigger game than GTA 6 because a lot of that stuff is going to be taken over by AI whether we want it or not. So, I think these banks of artists that are just building massive maps or massive cutscenes, I think some of that will be taken over by AI in the next, you know, five years or so.”
When is GTA 6 released?
Although a few days ago a mistake made many players think that it was already available, unfortunately it is not. After being rumored to be released this fall, GTA 6 will not arrive until May 26, 2026.
