Five Man United stars tell club they want to leave and told not to report for start of pre-season

Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho want to leave Manchester United, talkSPORT understands.

The five players have all informed the club of their wishes to depart Old Trafford this summer.

As it stands, it’s understood that they are not expected to go on their pre-season tour in Sweden and then the United States.

Man United respect their decisions and have delayed their returns to the club after the summer until later in July in order to help them explore options elsewhere.

They will still have access to medical and rehabilitation facilities, as well as remote support.

Furthermore, the quintet will be welcomed back to Carrington if their futures remain unresolved during the extended leave.

Rashford will be the most notable departure having been at the club since the age of seven. He’s made 426 appearances for Man United, scoring 138 goals.

The 27-year-old, who joined Aston Villa on loan in February, does not have a future at Red Devils under head coach Ruben Amorim.

Despite wanting to leave, Man United sources say Rashford will still remain as a significant part of their recent history.

As well as this, he will be respected as one of their most successful academy graduates.

The club revealed on Friday that their new £62.5million signing from Wolves, Matheus Cunha, will take the no.10 shirt for next season.

Rashford, who informed his representatives of his decision to leave in advance, has donned the squad number since the 2018/19 season.

His dream move to Barcelona may have been given a huge boost after Nico Williams signed a new deal with Athletic Bilbao.

Williams was Barca’s top target, but his decision to stay in Bilbao may see them act on their interest in a loan move for Rashford.

Amorim has told Garnacho to leave Man United this summer.

The Argentine hinted at an exit after their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Garnacho also angered fans by wearing a Villa shirt with Rashford’s name on the back on holiday.

Fellow winger Sancho spent last season on loan with Premier League rivals Chelsea, with whom he won the UEFA Conference League.

He last played for Man United in August during their Community Shield defeat at Wembley against rivals Manchester City.

Chelsea had an obligation to buy Sancho for £25m, but chose not to and instead paid a £5m penalty.

talkSPORT understands that Fenerbahce, who are managed by Jose Mourinho, are interested.

Antony joined Man United from Ajax in an £82m deal in 2022 but has scored only 12 goals in 96 appearances since then.

The Brazilian spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Real Betis, where he netted nine goals and assisted five others.

Alongside Garnacho, he is reportedly a transfer target for Erik ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen.

Malacia joined United in the same summer as Antony, signing from Feyenoord in a deal worth around £15m.

However, injury issues have limited the Dutchman to just 47 outings for the club.

The defender was on loan at PSV Eindhoven for the second half of last season.
