Days go by, and there is still a hangover from the earthquake unleashed by Microsoft on the fateful Wednesday, July 2, when it was announced the massive layoffs that were accompanied by the cancellation of games like Perfect Dark and Everwild. It turns out that the waters are far from calming down, as it is now time to talk about Turn 10 Studios and Forza Motorsport, a saga that has been canceled, according to a former member of the Redmond studio.
The creative Fred Russel left Turn 10 Studios almost ten years ago and now, after everything that is happening these days, has posted a message on Reddit echoed by Tom Henderson’s Insider Gaming, which ensures that it is one of the studios most affected by the layoffs and that Microsoft has no plans to continue with the Motorsport saga; instead, the remaining members of Turn 10 Studios will be dedicated to support Forza Horizon the successful saga of Playground Games, a team that is currently immersed in the development of the new Fable.
“The team is no more”
Russel has been very forceful, stating that the team dedicated to Forza Motorsport “is no more” and that it is “a very sad day for one of the best car racing video games.” For the time being, no company representative has commented on the statement.
It is worth remembering that the quintessential Xbox driving franchise debuted in 2005 and reached its peak of popularity in the Xbox 360 generation. Much later, in 2023, came Forza Motorsport for Xbox Series X|S and PC, a title that left behind the numbered installments and whose future becomes more than uncertain after everything that is happening in these troubled days for the Xbox division.
