The accident, which involved two cars and a bus, happened between Halfway Road and Belgrave Road.

Cars were forced to turn around at Saint Peter’s Church and traffic was backing up to both the Lower Road and Barton Hill Drive.

Bus and coach company Travelmasters warned customers on its social media page, saying that there would be some delays due to the incident.

“All 370G passengers please use 370D from Iwade, Kemsley Grovehurst and the 370C from Sonora,” it stated.

“The 370G is still in the traffic from the accident and can’t be turned around. All other services have been diverted.”

A police spokesman confirmed that they were called to the collision at around 6.49am.

He added: “Officers attended the scene where the road was closed while arrangements were made to recover the vehicles.”

A spokeswoman from the ambulance service added: “Crews assessed and treated three patients at the scene before taking one female patient to Medway Maritime Hospital for further medical treatment.”

It is understood that her injuries have not been described as life-threatening.

Two fire engines also attended to assist other emergency services.

The road has since reopened and traffic has returned to normal following some recovery work.
