Tottenham vice-captain James Maddison has been spotted showing his admiration for Luka Modric, sporting the Croatian legend’s retro Spurs shirt while on holiday.
When it comes to top stars who have some connection with Tottenham Hotspur, few names are bigger than that of Luka Modric, who spent four years at White Hart Lane before making the move to Real Madrid.
The Croatian international is one of the most decorated ex-Spurs players who went elsewhere to win silverware, having won 28 major trophies with Los Blancos, including the Ballon d’Or back in 2018.
With the midfielder now approaching 40 years of age, there is a growing feeling that his time at the top level is reaching its end. Still, Tottenham supporters are open to the idea of Modric rejoining the club this summer, following reports that he could leave Madrid.
James Maddison shows love for Luka Modric while on holiday
Tottenham vice-captain James Maddison, who is currently out injured and enjoying a holiday, has been seen publicly displaying his appreciation for former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric.
Maddison, who recorded 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season, was pictured wearing a retro Luka Modric Tottenham kit while on his holiday, a gesture that will resonate with many Spurs fans.
Of course, Maddison is still recovering from injury, and the Tottenham faithful will be hoping that he can return in time to play some part during pre-season before the 2025/26 campaign gets underway.
Thomas Frank will begin life at Spurs without Maddison
With Thomas Frank already in position as head coach, the Tottenham vice-captain, who has been undergoing rehabilitation, has already held talks with the new manager at Hotspur Way.
Frank is also expected to meet the bulk of his new squad soon, with reports indicating that the new Spurs boss will link up with the majority of his players later this week.
Tottenham have several pre-season fixtures lined up, but Frank is set to begin his tenure without Maddison, as the club’s first friendly against Reading on 19 July at the Select Car Leasing Stadium is expected to come too early for the midfielder.
That means the likes of Jamie Donley and Alfie Devine could get a chance to impress in the Tottenham number 10 position.
