When Kota Takai will likely join up with the Tottenham Hotspur squad

Tottenham fans have been waiting for over a week for the announcement of Kota Takai’s signing, and there has now been an official communication which suggests a potential date for the Japanese defender’s arrival at Hotspur Way.

Kota Takai is expected to become Tottenham’s second signing of the summer window following the permanent capture of Mathys Tel, with the Lilywhites reportedly striking a £5m deal to sign the young centre-back from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale.

According to reports, Takai has rejected the likes of Udinese, Borussia Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim in favour of a move to N17.

The centre-back, who won the J League Young Player of the Year award, is rated very highly in his home country, with Johan Lange reportedly identifying Takai for his comfort in playing on both sides of central defence.

Kota Takai’s Tottenham arrival could be confirmed this week

It has now been over a week since the news of his arrival first broke and with pre-season fast approaching, many Spurs fans have been left wondering what the hold-up is.

They now have an answer as Alasdair Gold has revealed that Kawasaki Frontale have announced that the 20-year-old will be leaving the team on July 5 to begin the process of joining “an overseas club”.

Two little bits of Spurs centre-back news. Reports that Atletico have agreed a fee for Cristian Romero are not true and Kawasaki Frontale have confirmed that Kota Takai will be leaving the team on July 5 to begin the process of joining an overseas club.

That means that Takai could link up with the Spurs squad at Hotspur Way at the start of next week.

He will be joined by the non-international Tottenham stars, who will be the first ones to report for pre-season training under Thomas Frank later this week.

Spurs fans have reason to be excited about Takai’s arrival

While the youngster is facing a huge step up at Tottenham, he has thrived on the big stage already, including impressing for Japan in their World Cup qualifiers.

Takai also reportedly had Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane in his pocket in the AFC Champions League semifinal back in April.

Japanese football expert Tasuku Okawa has revealed that Takai is dominant in duels while also being gifted with the ball at his feet, and Spurs fans will be hoping that he explodes in his first season at N17 just as Lucas Bergvall did last term.
