Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a shockingly low allocation for the UEFA Super Cup clash against PSG in Udine on August 13.
Thomas Frank has a tough start to life at Tottenham, with Spurs facing a month of death between mid-October and mid-November as they face several of the Premier League’s big-hitters in succession.
However, before the Dane casts his mind ahead to the league season, there is the small matter of the UEFA Super Cup clash against PSG. The 51-year-old has an opportunity to win silverware in his first competitive game as Tottenham Hotspur boss.
Some Spurs fans will already be planning their trip to Italy, but it turns out that a shockingly low number of Tottenham fans will be at the venue as the ticket allocation numbers have now been confirmed.
Tottenham allocated less than 7000 tickets for UEFA Super Cup
Spurs have now confirmed in an official email to the supporters that UEFA have allotted the club just 6,700 tickets for the Super Cup clash.
The clash will take place at the Stadio Friuli, in Udine, which is Guglielmo Vicario’s home city and a ground that Destiny Udogie knows well, having spent two seasons at Udinese.
The stadium has a capacity of 25,144, which means that both Spurs and PSG have been allocated just around a quarter of the venue’s allocation each, with the remaining half of the tickets going elsewhere.
Tottenham have confirmed that Category A, B, and C tickets have been priced at €130 (£112), €80 (£68), and €30 (£26) respectively by UEFA.
FIFA rule means Spurs may have a big advantage over PSG
Spurs fans are understandably not too confident about their side’s chances against PSG, given how dominant the Parisians were in the Champions League last season and their stellar performances at the ongoing Club World Cup.
However, PSG’s participation in the Club World Cup may improve Tottenham’s chances of causing an upset against the Ligue 1 side and winning their second trophy in a space of months.
As Spurs Web has covered previously, PSG could be undercooked against Tottenham in the Super Cup clash due to a FIFA rule, which stipulates that players must be given at least three weeks off after any major tournament.
That means that, should the European champions reach the finals of the Club World Cup on July 13, their players will not be back for pre-season until just a week and a half before their clash against Spurs.
