Screams were heard as a car reportedly ploughed into a man who had been “waving a large metal rod” in a town centre.
Police say they had been alerted to a disturbance involving a group of people in Harbour Street, Whitstable, yesterday evening.

An air ambulance landed in the town and a man aged in his 20s was taken to hospital by road with a leg injury.
No arrests have been made so far.
An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said: “I saw a man waving a large metal rod around who seemed to be with a group of lads who had parked a car horizontally across Harbour Street by the zebra crossing, blocking traffic.
“He got out, threatened other lads and anyone who confronted them.
“But then another car came hurtling out of the harbour into them.

“I heard screaming and ran home to call the police and the ambulance service.
“While I was on the phone, they said lots more calls were coming in.
“I then saw the air ambulance land shortly after.
“I could hear cars speeding up and down for some time after and a general commotion.
“I didn’t want to leave the house again.”
