Traffic is already building on nearby side roads as drivers negotiate the closure.

A video taken by commuter Reece Gilmurray shows stationary vehicles on Warwick Road.

He described the area as “a complete car park”.

Contractors have dug a large crater in the tarmac for the works, which are taking place outside the Premier store.

Traffic information site Inrix says the closure is due to emergency water repairs.
