One Netbook’s next handheld gaming PC is actually the latest in a line of 3-in-1 devices from the company. With a 10.95 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel display and detachable controllers you can use the ONEXPLAYER X1 Air as a Windows tablet or a handheld game system. There’s also a detachable keyboard that the company says lets you use the system like a laptop, although I’m not totally convinced that a tablet with a keyboard is really a laptop replacement.
If all of that sounds familiar, it’s because One Netbook has been offering models with similar designs since early 2024. But the new model is the first to feature an Intel Lunar Lake processor. There’s no word on the price or release date for the ONEXPLAYER X1 Air yet, but One Netbook has provided some details in a series of posts to Chinese social media site Weibo.
The original ONEXPLAYER X1 was powered by an Intel Meteor Lake processor that looked good on paper, but lagged behind the latest AMD chips in terms of graphics performance and power efficiency.
So the company followed up with two more models in June, 2024: a ONEXPLAYER X1 with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor and a ONEXPLAYER X1 Mini with that same chip, but a smaller 8.8 inch display.
And in December the company launched a higher-performance model called the ONEXPLAYER X1 Pro with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor. With prices currently starting at $1320 though, it’s a bit of a tough sell.
While it’s unclear if the upcoming ONEXPLAYER X1 Air will have a lower price tag, it will have a chip that’s more widely available, but which should still offer a good mix of CPU and GPU performance, along with an integrated NPU for on-device AI processing.
The Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor is a Lunar Lake chip that features:
- 8-core CPU
- 4 x Performance cores @ up to 4.8 GHz
- 4 x Low-Power Efficient cores @ up to 3.7 GHz
- Intel Arc 140V GPU
- 8 x Xe GPU cores @ up to 1.95 GHz
- 64 TOPS peak Int8 AI performance
- Intel AI Boost NPU
- 47 TOPS peak Int8 AI performance
The Core Ultra 7 258V is a mobile chip with a processor base power level of 17 watts and maximum turbo power of 37 watts. It’s also a chip with integrated memory, so we know the ONEXPLAYER X1 Air has 32GB of LPDDR5x-8533 dual-channel memory.
A teaser video for the ONEXPLAYER X1 Air also shows that while earlier models have 65 Wh batteries, the new version will have a higher-capacity 72 Wh battery.
Other features include support for PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, two full-function USB4 Type-C ports, GB lighting effects, and an aluminum body with a built-in keyboard featuring a “stepless” design, allowing you to prop up the tablet at just about any angle.
Since the new tablet is basically the same size and shape as earlier models, it’s likely that it’ll use the same magnetic keyboard, which is currently on sale for $59 as an optional accessory for the ONEXPLAYER X1 and X1 Pro.
