Gaming supplier sector generated US$60bln worldwide in 2023 economic impact: AGEM report – GGRAsia

A study conducted on behalf of the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) suggests that the sector achieved US$59.9 billion in total economic output impact worldwide during 2023. This represented an increase of 8.1 percent compared to 2022, the document added.

It stated that the supplier industry’s value-added economic impact rose by more than 7 percent year-on-year, reaching US$32.4 billion.

“Furthermore, gaming industry suppliers supported approximately 225,000 employees, including 77,000 directly employed staff”, with a total of US$20.9 billion in wages and salaries – up 11.8 percent on the previous year, AGEM said in a press release issued on Tuesday. The sector paid approximately US$9.6 billion in direct wages to employees.

The report, titled “Impact Analysis: Global Gaming Supplier Industry”, was commissioned by AGEM and conducted by research firm Applied Analysis LLC, based in Nevada, in the United States.

The report noted that, “following the global economic impacts of the Covid-19 health crisis and related response, the global gaming supplier industry has experienced three consecutive years of steady growth and is nearing a return to the pre-pandemic performance levels.”

The global gaming supplier industry was said to have directly generated approximately US$22.7 billion in economic output during 2023. When the ripple effects of that output were considered, total output reached US$59.9 billion, according to the report. This figure remained below the US$66.3 billion recorded in 2019.

Gaming supplier companies operating in Nevada generated US$10.6 billion in direct economic output in 2023, the document showed. Other impact measures for Nevada included US$15.1 billion in total value added, US$6.6 billion in total wages and salaries, and employment for more than 71,000 people in that U.S. jurisdiction.

Daron Dorsey, AGEM president and chief executive, was quoted in the press release accompanying the study’s findings as saying: “The gaming supplier industry continues to be a global success story.”

He added: “The most recent economic impact study shows our members are resilient in the face of global challenges and will continue delivering products, technologies and services to customers and consumers alike while remaining invested in the long-term success of their local communities.”

AGEM is described as a non-profit international trade association representing manufacturers and suppliers of electronic gaming devices, lotteries, systems, table games, online technology, sports betting, key components, and support products and services for the gaming industry.

It states that it has 135 member companies across 23 countries.
