Console Versions of ‘System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster’ Launch July 10

That didn’t take long. After announcing a delay for the console release of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster due to delays in certification, Nightdive Studios has now announced a July 10 release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

Released last week on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.com, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is a remaster of the 1999 classic science-fiction horror action role-playing game, System Shock 2. Like its remastered predecessor, the 25th Anniversary Remaster has been rebuilt for modern platforms using Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX Engine, offering players the definitive System Shock 2 experience with improved visuals, enhanced gameplay, and vastly improved performance (up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second).

In addition to being the most visually impressive version of the title to date, it’s also the most stable, as numerous bugs in the original PC game have been fixed. The remaster also includes upgrades to the game’s co-op multiplayer mode, as well as official mod support.

Set 42 years after the events of the first game, System Shock 2 sees players embody a soldier who awakens from cryo-sleep with cybernetic implants grafted to his flesh. As he sets out to unravel the horrifying mystery of the derelict starship, he’ll need to hone his upgradable skills and utilize powerful weapons and paranormal psionic abilities to survive the monstrous creations of SHODAN — and endure her narcissistic god complex.

And just in case you were on the fence, check out Harrison’s review of the game, which he refers to it being an “absolute must-buy.”
