CHIPS, the handicapped children’s charity that is popular in the UK gaming industry, has been named as the official charity partner by Clarion Gaming.
CHIPS supplies powered wheelchairs to young poeple and has so far received 700 wheelchairs through its connection with the business. Each of the bespoke chairs can cost up ot £9,000.
The charity’s founder and trustee, Linda Lindsay, said: “Having worked with so many families I have seen at first hand the stress placed on them when they are informed that their child doesn’t meet the criteria to receive an NHS funded powered wheelchair.
“I’ve met children who can walk three metres, which means that they don’t qualify, despite the fact that after four metres they are struggling to stand and even breathe.
“Many of the families CHIPS has helped over the years would not have been able to continue their children’s education with just a heavy pushchair supplied by the NHS, but they’ve flourished and regained their independence and dignity with the powered chair that we have been able to provide thanks to the generosity of our supporters.”
