Worrying Xavi Simons update for Tottenham as Premier League rivals join race

Tottenham’s pursuit of Xavi Simons might have just got a lot harder as a new report has revealed that a Premier League club, who are also in next season’s Champions League, are now considering pushing forward with a move for the RB Leipzig attacker.

Spurs have not had a good start to the transfer window, with Man United on the verge of beating the Lilywhites to Bryan Mbeumo, while reports indicate that Arsenal are expected to beat Tottenham to Christian Norgaard.

Over the last few weeks, several outlets have claimed that Spurs have made advances towards Xavi Simons, whose future at Leipzig is in doubt.

Some sources have even installed Tottenham as one of the favourites to land Simons, but that may be about to change as another Premier League club are now turning their attention towards the Dutchman.

Newcastle threaten to beat Tottenham to Xavi Simons

This update comes from GiveMeSport, who claim that Newcastle are now threatening to raid Leipzig for Simons, as well as Antonio Nusa, as Eddie Howe looks to reinforce his forward line.

The report states that the Magpies have shown interest in both players, but it is unclear from the update whether they want to sign both or one of the two.

It is explained that Newcastle see Simons as the cheaper option, with the 22-year-old expected to cost £40m, as opposed to Nusa, who is priced at £60m. Ironically, Tottenham have also been linked with Antonio Nusa in recent weeks.

It is revealed that the Netherlands international’s representatives are in contact with Newcastle, but they are also said to be speaking to several other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Simons wants to move to the Premier League

GiveMeSport make it clear that Newcastle could face a lot of competition for the Leipzig winger, with not just Spurs, but also Arsenal and Man United having enquired about the player’s availability.

The outlet says that even though Simons has two years left on his contract, he is determined to leave the Red Bull Arena to take on a new challenge this summer.

The versatile attacker is thought to be ‘eager to discover’ whether any of his English suitors are prepared to make an offer for him and hammer out a deal with Leipzig.
