Tottenham Hotspur fans would assume that Micky van de Ven is head and shoulders above his Spurs teammates when it comes to raw pace, but Mikey Moore and Dane Scarlett have revealed that one of their teammates is just as fast as the Dutchman.
Tottenham’s Dutch centre-back has several outstanding attributes, which is why he is considered by many to be one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League and explains why Van de Ven has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid.
However, the one quality that separates him from the rest is undoubtedly his raw pace, with many marvelling at how some of the 24-year-old’s physical stature is able to reach speeds that he does.
In fact, Van de Ven has topped the Premier League speed charts over the last two seasons, which serves as evidence that he is the quickest player in the division, but it turns out that another Tottenham Hotspur defender can give the Netherlands international a run for his money.
Djed Spence is just as fast as Micky van de Ven
Moore has now revealed that in the speed tests conducted at Spurs, Djed Spence is not far off the Dutch defender when he gets into full throttle.
Scarlett agreed with the attacking midfielder, pointing out that the full-back is also extremely quick in possession, thus making it a tight contest between him and Van de Ven.
Moore said on Tottenham’s official channel: “Djed is like fast! I think they did the stats, I think Djed is close (to Van de Ven). If he gets to top speed, he’s actually Micky-level. He’s rapid!”
Meanwhile, Scarlett added: “Micky or Djed. I don’t think Spence has done it in a game. (He’s quick) With the ball as well. It’s close (between him and Van de Ven).”
Can Djed Spence explode under Thomas Frank at Tottenham?
Thomas Frank is no stranger to playing three at the back and using wing-backs and that should suit Spence much better than being asked to invert as he was under Ange Postecoglou.
We also know, based on the Dane’s time at Brentford, that he loves athletic and strong players who are capable of getting up and down the pitch, and he could thus take a real liking to Spence.
Given Frank’s track record of improving players, it will be interesting to see how the former Middlesbrough man develops, as there has never been any doubt about his raw talent.
