Tottenham’s pursuit of Mohammed Kudus is still in danger of being hijacked by Chelsea, but the Lilywhites have one big advantage over their London rivals.
News broke on Monday morning that Tottenham had made advances towards Kudus, who had moved to the top of Thomas Frank’s wishlist ahead of the likes of Eberechi Eze and Antoine Semenyo.
Since then, it has emerged that West Ham are ready to sell Kudus to Spurs for £60m due to their PSR issues, with the East London club prepared to break their policy of not dealing with the Lilywhites.
Spurs fans on social media are understandably excited about the Kudus rumours, but it has now emerged that Tottenham still face competition for the 24-year-old.
Tottenham have key Mohammed Kudus advantage over Chelsea
The Daily Mail have now claimed that the Blues have not ruled out making an approach for Kudus despite spending £100m collectively on Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens.
However, given the funds they have splashed on those players and Liam Delap this summer, the West London club would need to sell some players before they can sign the Hammers star, as they are close to breaching their PSR limit.
Chelsea have considered offering their players to West Ham in a part-exchange deal, but Graham Potter’s men are not interested in any potential trades, preferring a cash deal for Kudus.
It thus seems like Tottenham Hotspur have an advantage over Enzo Maresca’s side and the door is open for the North London club to strike a deal for the winger.
Which other clubs are interested in signing Kudus?
The Mail add that Man United and Newcastle have also shown an interest in the former Ajax man this summer.
Meanwhile, it was reported last week that Arsenal were also considering making a move for Kudus, with Mikel Arteta wanting to add more depth out wide.
Spurs fans will be desperately hoping that the club can tie up a deal for the Ghanaian before some of their Premier League rivals step up to hijack the transfer.
