Tottenham fans will be frustrated by Premier League PSR transfer news

Tottenham fans are becoming increasingly impatient about the club’s lack of urgency in the transfer market, and a new report may add to that frustration.

Pre-season is fast approaching, and Tottenham Hotspur fans would have hoped to see a few new faces arrive by now, but the Lilywhites have only completed the permanent signing of Mathys Tel so far this transfer window.

Spurs are expected to lose out to Man United in the race for Bryan Mbeumo, while it has emerged over recent days that Christian Norgaard is expected to snub Tottenham in favour of a move to Arsenal.

It has also emerged over the last few days that Tottenham’s pursuit of Eberechi Eze is in danger of being hijacked, and this has left Spurs fans extremely worried, with many wondering why the club have not signalled their ambition yet this summer.

Why Premier League clubs have delayed transfer market activity

The Daily Mail have now pointed out that several clubs across the Premier League have put deals on hold over recent weeks. This is because they want to register the spending on their 2025-26 accounts rather than 2024-25, which matters for the PSR calculations.

With the new accounting year for PSR calculations starting on Tuesday, the outlet suggests that we might see some big moves in the transfer window over the next few days from clubs across the division.

However, this might frustrate fans of Tottenham Hotspur, as it seems the Lilywhites have given up one of their key advantages in the early stages of the window.

Why this might not necessarily apply to Tottenham

While it may make sense for the likes of Man City and Aston Villa to hold fire on deals since they are dangerously close to breaching PSG, Spurs have a lot more wiggle room.

According to reports, Tottenham can spend £273m this summer without falling foul of the PSR regulations. So, the question on the lips of many Tottenham fans will be: ‘Why has the club not moved early in the transfer window while rivals have their hands tied?’

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and even Man City have all moved early to secure multiple new signings already. Spurs, on the other hand, don’t even appear to be close on a senior signing, beyond loans turning into permanent deals for Tel and Kevin Danso.

Spurs fans will be hoping that the club makes some big moves over the next two weeks so that Thomas Frank has enough time to integrate the new signings into his set-up.
