Three ways Mohammed Kudus could fit into Thomas Frank’s Tottenham XI

We have highlighted three ways Tottenham’s forward target, Mohammed Kudus, could fit into Thomas Frank’s system should he complete a deal this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus this summer, with the Ghanaian said to be open to talks.

According to fresh reports, Kudus ranks highly on Tottenham’s list of attacking targets, and initial contact has already been made over a potential move.

The Lilywhite faithful have not hidden their excitement either, with many Spurs supporters urging the club to push hard for Kudus, believing his signing would improve Tottenham’s attack.

The versatile winger is reported to have an £85m release clause for Premier League clubs, but we have since revealed that Tottenham are looking to reach an agreement with West Ham for Kudus on a cut-price.

Should Tottenham seal a deal for the West Ham star, the question that immediately arises is where Thomas Frank would deploy him in the Spurs XI. We have drawn up three possible line-ups that show how Kudus could slot in.

Mohammed Kudus could start at right wing for Tottenham

If the Ghanaian international completes a move to Tottenham Hotspur in this summer window, then one logical fit would be on the right flank of Frank’s front three.

This would immediately provide strong competition for Brennan Johnson, who has largely made that role his own over the past season with his pace and movement.

Johnson did well last term, scoring 18 goals in all competitions, but Spurs need depth and unpredictability, and Kudus could offer just that. Kudus has featured 50 times on the right during his career, scoring 21 goals and laying on 10 assists.

Here is how Tottenham’s XI could look: Guglielmo Vicario; Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison; Heung-min Son, Dominic Solanke, Mohammed Kudus.

Kudus could cover the left for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur may be forced to plan without Heung-min Son at the start of next season, with the South Korean winger continually linked with moves to clubs in Europe and the Middle East.

The Lilywhites have already completed the permanent signing of Mathys Tel, who is expected to operate from the left next season. However, Kudus could offer additional cover in that role if needed.

While most of Kudus’ appearances have come from the right, the 24-year-old is versatile and has featured 19 times on the left in his career.

As a left-footer, Kudus could offer Frank the option to stretch play wide when up against low-blocks, as he could go on the outside and swing in dangerous crosses.

Spurs XI with Kudus on the left in a 4-2-3-1: Guglielmo Vicario; Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison; Mohammed Kudus, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson.

Mohammed Kudus offers Tottenham a second striker option

Another intriguing role Thomas Frank could consider is deploying Kudus just behind Dominic Solanke as a second striker.

This would allow Kudus to take up more central positions where his dribbling, close control and ability to link play between midfield and attack would come into play, while also arriving late into the box to score.

The addition of Kudus in this role would ease the creative burden on James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, while providing Frank with another player capable of playing between the lines.

Kudus has experience here too, with 51 appearances as a centre-forward and 49 as an attacking midfielder, scoring 27 and assisting nine goals in those roles.

Not only has he already shown he can perform in the English top flight, but his ability to play across the frontline and even centrally gives Frank tactical flexibility, particularly in games where Spurs need to mix things up.

Spurs XI with Kudus as a number ten: Guglielmo Vicario; Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski; Dominic Solanke, Mohammed Kudus.
