The last five players to move from West Ham to Tottenham amid Mohammed Kudus links

Mohammed Kudus is being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, and if he completes the transfer, he will become just the fifth player to make the move from West Ham to N17 over the past 23 years. Here is a look at the last five players who made the same move.

West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur have not done any business since Scott Parker left Upton Park to move to White Hart Lane back in 2011.

While that is partially explained by the rivalry between the clubs, there is also bad blood between the hierarchies of the two London sides.

West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has had some choice words about Daniel Levy over the years, with their dispute stemming from the Spurs chairman’s failed attempt to acquire the London Stadium before he decided to proceed with the building of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Who has transferred from West Ham to Spurs?

Mohammed Kudus would become just the sixth player to move from West Ham to Tottenham in the last 23 years, but how did the other five get on?

Scott Parker – 2011

Scott Parker was a success story at Tottenham, even though he only spent two years at White Hart Lane, with the England international arriving at Spurs on the back of winning the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and England Player of the Year awards.

The midfielder was named Tottenham’s Player of the Year at the end of his first season at the club, but injury issues in his second season at White Hart Lane and the rise of Sandro Raniere saw him being phased out by Andre Villas-Boas.

Jimmy Walker – 2009

Jimmy Walker made a free transfer to Tottenham in 2009 after being released by West Ham, serving as Spurs’ third-choice goalkeeper behind Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini, and failing to make a single appearance for the North Londoners.

Michael Carrick – 2004

Michael Carrick made the move from Upton Park to Spurs in 2004 and the midfielder initially struggled to get into the Tottenham side.

However, he exploded under Martin Jol, evolving into one of the best deep-lying playmakers in the Premier League before being signed in a £18.6m deal by Manchester United, where he became a club legend.

Jermain Defoe – 2004

Jermain Defoe made the move from West Ham to Tottenham in January of 2004 in a deal that saw Bobby Zamora move in the opposite direction, and the striker was undoubtedly the best signing the Lilywhites have made from their London rivals.

Defoe had two spells at Spurs and scored 143 goals in 363 appearances, leaving as a club legend to move to MLS in 2014 before returning as an academy coach once he hung up his boots.

Frederick Kanoute – 2003

Another centre-forward, Frederick Kanoute, made the switch six months before Defoe, and while there was a lot of excitement about the Mali international’s arrival, he never got going at Spurs, scoring just 14 times in 60 appearances for the club before being sold to Sevilla in 2005.

Why are West Ham open to selling Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham?

The Hammers hierarchy have made it a point not to do business with their London rivals over the last decade and a half but it has been claimed over recent days that they are now prepared to change their stance.

It has been alleged that West Ham are ready to be pragmatic and accept £60m from Tottenham for Mohammed Kudus, given their desperation to raise funds amidst their PSR troubles.

With manager Graham Potter keen to bring some signings through the door, he is ready to sacrifice the 24-year-old, who is the East London club’s most sellable asset.
