Hey gamers, did you know you might be entitled to some money? GameStop settled a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit where people who purchased a video game with the store over the last five years may be eligible for compensation.
GameStop settled the lawsuit Alejandro Aldana and Scott Gallie v. GameStop, Inc. for $4.5 million. The class-action lawsuit alleged the video game store gave customers’ personal information to Facebook without their consent.
The lawsuit stated that GameStop shared information that could identify a person to the social media platform via the Facebook Tracking Pixel. Facebook could then find out the identity of someone who purchased a specific game, and use that data to create targeted ads for that person.
The gaming store, like companies in many class-action lawsuits, denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to pay out the settlement. Here is the how to receive the payment and if you qualify.
Do I qualify for a payment in the GameStop lawsuit?
Those who purchased a video game on the GameStop website from Aug. 18, 2020, through April 17, 2025 may be eligible.
If you made a purchase during that time-frame, you must have had a Facebook account that used your legal name during that span.
How much is the GameStop payment?
Those who qualify could receive up to $5 in cash, or a $10 voucher to use on the GameStop’s website.
How do I submit a claim for GameStop settlement?
A claim can be filed right on the settlement’s website. The deadline to file a claim is Aug. 15, 2025.
The form requires you to state your name, address, phone number, email and proof that you had a Facebook account in your name at the time of the purchase through a link or screenshot.
While physical copies of video games may not be as popular as they were 10 or 15 years ago, there are still GameStop locations across North Jersey, including shops located at the Garden State Plaza, Lodi Shopping Center and Clifton Shopping Center.
