Halo Studios will reveal new Unreal Engine 5 Halo games next fall

The Halo universe is preparing for a new era. Halo Studios, the rebranded name of what was formerly 343 Industries, has announced that it will officially unveil several new Halo games in October, all built with Unreal Engine 5. The announcement will take place during the Halo World Championship, which runs from 24-26 October in Seattle, making it the scene of key revelations for the future of the franchise.

Setting a new course for Halo

This announcement confirms rumours that have been circulating since the A New Dawn tech demo was shown last year, which wowed fans with its graphics and use of Epic Games’ powerful engine. We now know that that teaser was part of a larger project called Project Foundry, which has become the foundation for the next generation of Halo games.

Pierre Hintze, the current head of Halo Studios, described this phase as “Chapter 3” of the franchise’s legacy. According to him, this new phase leaves behind both the Bungie and 343 Industries eras, and is a “different recipe” for game making. The switch to Unreal Engine 5 is not only a technological upgrade but also an effort to increase production efficiency and achieve a renewed creative ambition.
While specific titles and genres have not yet been revealed, the studio has confirmed that several projects are in development. This has fuelled speculation among the community: some are betting on a new mainline game that continues Master Chief’s story, while others are dreaming of modern remakes of classics like Halo: Reach or Halo 3, or even narrative spin-offs set in unexplored corners of the universe.

The decision to showcase these developments at a competitive event like the Halo World Championship reinforces Halo Studios’ commitment to its community and to the competitive multiplayer universe that has been central to the franchise’s success. Fans can expect trailers, technical details, platform announcements, and possibly even approximate release dates.

In addition to the graphics engine change, the transformation of 343 Industries into Halo Studios symbolises a sharper corporate focus. Rather than simply being the custodians of an IP, they now present themselves as a studio dedicated solely to the future of Halo, with the intention of ensuring its relevance for years to come in the AAA market.

October will mark a before and after for the Halo franchise. After years of internal tinkering and quiet reinvention, Halo Studios is set to show the world what they’ve been building with Unreal Engine 5. For fans, it will be a chance to reconnect with a franchise that has defined generations, this time with a new face, but with the same ambition as ever. Meanwhile, we highly recommend you to take a look at Halo: The Master Chief Collection if you haven’t already as it’s the best compilation of games in the franchise.
