The Acer Predator GP30 has been developed specifically for gaming enthusiasts, as the external SSD offers a high speed of up to 2,000 MB/s, a gaming design with a transparent front as well as RGB lighting.

The Acer Predator GP30 SSD stands out from alternatives like the Samsung T9 (from $129 on Amazon) primarily due to its unusual design, as Acer uses a partially transparent front that allows a look at the memory chips on the mainboard. The chips are even illuminated by RGB lighting when the SSD is connected to a computer.
Despite its striking design, the Predator GP30 measures 2.83 x 2.40 x 0.47 inches and is one of the more compact external SSDs on the market. Its weight of 2.33 oz is also remarkably low. Furthermore, the SSD supports USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2, which should allow for speeds of 2,000 MB/s for both reading and writing. The SSD can also be used with USB-C ports that support older USB standards, albeit at a reduced transfer speeds.
Thanks to its high speed, the Predator GP30 is suitable for storing games, which should be playable without any noticeable compromises in terms of loading times. Acer further advertises broad compatibility with Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, HarmonyOS and Sony’s PlayStation. However, the PS5 only allows users to launch PS4 games directly from an external SSD. Acer also provides a five-year manufacturer warranty on the SSD.
Price and availability
The Acer Predator GP30 SSD will launch in China first. It will be available with 1TB of storage for roughly $111, while 2TB of storage capacity will cost the equivalent of $209. The current top version with 4TB is priced at $348, but an even more spacious 8TB model is expected to launch later. Details on a global launch are still pending. Further information on specifications can be found on the official product page.
