If you bought a video game from GameStop in the past five years, you may get some money back.

According to a settlement from a class-action lawsuit, the national electronics and gaming retailer has agreed to pay $4.5 million after being accused of sharing customers’ personal information without consent. GameStop allegedly shared “personally identifiable information” (PII) with Facebook via the Facebook Tracking Pixel (now known as Meta Pixel), which shares the information with marketing companies to target social media users with content and ads.

USA Today reports GameStop did not admit wrongdoing in the settlement, but agreed to compensate anyone who bought a video game between Aug. 18, 2020, and April 17, 2025, if they had a public Facebook profile with their actual name at the time of purchase.

If you qualify, you can file a claim to receive a cash payment of up to $5 or a voucher for up to $10 to use on GameStop’s website.

To submit a claim, fill out the online form at gamestopvppasettlement.com. Claimants must provide their full name, address, email, phone number and proof of ownership of a Facebook account with a link to their profile page or a screenshot.

Claims must be submitted by Aug. 15, 2025. That date is also the deadline to object to the settlement or ask to speak in court about your opinion of the settlement.

The payout is from the class action lawsuit, Alejandro Aldana and Scott Gallie v. GameStop, Inc., Index No. 500772/2025, filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Kings County. The claims website URL is based on Aldana and Gallie’s allegations GameStop violated the Video Privacy Protection Act (the “VPPA”).

The case is scheduled for a final approval hearing on Sept. 18.

GameStop is best known for selling both new and used video games, controllers, consoles and other electronics items. The company converted some locations into “retro” stores last year to attract fans of older Nintendo, PlayStation, Sega Genesis and Xbox products, but has struggled in recent years, closing about 1,000 stores globally in 2024.
